The Munich Piano Trio
On this website you will find in depth information about the Munich Piano Trio. Besides biographical details you will be presented with numerous video and audio samples of this ensemble. You can also obtain press reviews and highlights of memorable performances. More than forty CD recordings document the trio’s versatility and musical standing.
Founded by cellist Gerhard Zank, who since has remained faithful to the ensemble, the Munich Piano Trio celebrated its fortieth anniversary in 2022 with a festive concert in Munich’s Künstlerhaus on Lenbachplatz. Pianist Donald Sulzen joined the trio in 2001, followed by violinist Michael Arlt in 2004.
The Munich Piano Trio has invited renowned colleagues to enhance its standard repertoire with significant and partially unknown compositions of chamber music, ranging from piano quartet to sextet. The cherished collaboration with singers, witnessed through recordings of music by Beethoven, Haydn, Rorem, Piazzolla and Schostakovich, is an indispensable part of the trio’s activities.
